Welcome to Random Loot, Loot The Room’s monthly newsletter. You can read previous issues here (although this is the first one so there’s nothing there yet!) and support the newsletter on Ko-fi here. Subscribe to get new issues in your inbox!
This is the first of what I hope to be a monthly newsletter, and for those of you who have been on my mailing list for a while I’m sure you’ll have noticed a change!
In the past I’ve sent emails very infrequently, usually simply to tell you about new products going on sale and asking you to buy them. That’s never sat right with me, and for a while I’ve wanted to change things up. I miss having a vehicle to talk about the cool things going on in the RPG space like I used to do with my monthly DMs Guild roundups many years ago, and that’s what I’m going to do with this newsletter from now on.
On the second Wednesday of every month I’ll be updating you on what’s going on with me as well as to tell you about cool things from other people that you might have missed. The bulk of the emails will be things from other people, and I hope you’ll enjoy the stuff I pick to talk about!
If you have anything you want me to take a look at, feel free to drop an email to chris at loottheroom dot uk. I can’t promise to cover everything, because I want this to be curated and not to just spam links at people, but I do promise to take a look at anything you ask me to look at.
What’s new with me?
The second Adventure Jam has been extended. You now have until the end of November to write new adventures inspired by B1.
Fear Of A Black Dragon covered my adventure FEAST in a very positive review. You can listen to it here.
If you’re in London for Dragonmeet in December, I’ll have a booth in the upper hall and you should come and say hello! I’ll also be tabling at Dungeons & Flagons’ all-dayer in Manchester on December 10th.
What’s good?
Cat Elm released The Haunting of Abimond Manor, a system-neutral dungeon crawl through a haunted house. There’s a very cool time-sensitive nature to the adventure that reminds me of The Waking of Willowby Hall in a very good way.
Spear Witch has some exciting new stuff on the way. First, a limited run of 100 hand-numbered books by Thrift O’Mancer. Called Laundromat, this will never be printed again. Second, a new Wretched & Alone game called The Dark by Disaster Tourism that comes with a soundtrack on cassette!
Alicia Furness is itchfunding an expansion for their spooky Carved From Brindlewood game Paranormal, Inc. called Bust More Ghosts. This is a collection of new mysteries by a bunch of great writers, and at the time of writing this newsletter it’s only $150 away from funding.
The new “Pearlescent” edition of bastards. dropped in August but since this is the first newsletter I’m doing I’m mentioning it away. The original game was a big influence on my own a dragon game, and this new edition is expanded in all the right ways; a bigger bestiary, more gear, more magic, and 36 new classes.
Ex Stasis Games are launching Midwinter Ghost Stories, a collection of five system-neutral horror adventures. The campaign launches on November 14th and will run for a month, and from what I’ve seen of the adventures so far it’s going to be great.
And last but not least, Sin just a new solo journaling game/hexcrawl called Into The Gloom. It’s playable in browser using StorySynth, a platform I’m not familiar with but which looks like it’s capable of some very cool stuff! In this you tell the story of a journey through dark and haunted woods with your Queen, and I’ve been having a lot of fun with it.
That’s it for this first newsletter. I would love to know what you think of this format and especially would like to hear about it if you pick up and play anything that I mentioned here.
Until next month!
Excellent update.
